MahaSivarathri

MAAGHASYA KRISHNAPAKSHEY YA THITHISCHAIVA CHATURDASI THASYA RATHRIS SAMAAKYAATHAA SHIVARATHRISH SHIVAPRIYAA”

MAHASHIVA RATHRI is one of the important festivals of

HINDUS. It is rather a VRITHAM than a festival. It falls in the month of March (ie) In

the Tamil month of masi, krishnapaksham, chaturdasi thithi. This year it is on the

instant of March 2nd.

Once Lord Mahavishnu and Lord Brahma wanted to look at Lord Shiva’s head and foot.(adi mudi), to measure his greatness but their efforts went in vain. Then Lord Shiva presented himself before them in the form of Jothi (flame of fire). Only this day is celebrated as Mahashivarathri every year
